No Bilingual/Multilingual Skill Requirement/Preference No Type of Recruitment Definition General Public - G Job Type Definition Full-Time (Salaried) Pay Band UG Job Description Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for a full-time, restricted Precision Machining Faculty in our Workforce Development Services division. The Precision Machining Faculty will be responsible for successfully teaching high school level students in year-long Department of Education-approved curriculum and more accelerated workforce preparation for adult learners, including custom training for area businesses. The incumbent will also coordinate activities related to work-based learning, to include registered apprenticeships and will assist with student recruitment. This is an innovative new position in the Workforce division of the college to bring about the growth and success of students, the machining program, and the division. The incumbent will fulfill a variety of instructor-related and other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Workforce department. Teaching assignments may range from summer kids camps, to high school courses, to adult courses, preparing students for manufacturing jobs, and even professional development for local business and industry. NOTE: This is a restricted professional faculty position subject to continued availability of funds. The initial period of performance is July 2019 to June 2020. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of 10 years of experience in a machining environment, which may include coursework in a Community College or University setting, using a variety of metalworking tools, processes and machines, primarily lathes and mills, and with experience in CNC / G-code programming. Must hold a current, or actively apply for and attain, VDOE Teaching License for high school student instruction?within the VDOE required grace period. Must be or become certified in all National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Level 1 credentials within six months of hire (11 credentials). This position will require excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to develop syllabi and exams; ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum and assessments; as well as the ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree in a Career and Technical Education field preferred. Classroom Machining instruction experience, providing instruction in accelerated formats geared towards certification exam preparation. Demonstrated track record of high level of student credential and institutional outcomes with the ability to deliver instruction in the classroom and machine shop. Areas of expertise include: machine setup, machining applications, programming with ProtoTrak, Haas, Mazak and Fanuc controls and simulators, process planning, precision measurement, inspection, print reading, GD & T and symbols, metallurgy, cutting tool selection and assembly, machine maintenance and shop and personal safety.
