Under the general direction of the Executive Director of the Educational Partnership Center (EPC), the Deputy Director is a college access and preparation subject-matter expert and serves as the EPC's expert in academic preparation and educational partnership development. The incumbent reviews and analyzes longstanding K-12 structural barriers and promotes systemic improvements in targeted regional schools/districts. Provides leadership, policy guidance, and general oversight of center-wide initiatives and various EPC college preparation/enrichments programs, including but not limited to Cal-SOAP, Talent Search, and CRLP. Formulates policies and procedures, provides leadership for developing strategic options to advance short- and long-term center-wide goals and strategies, and ensures compliance with mandated program requirements. Determines goals and performance expectations and provides program and resource direction and guidance to subordinate managers. Works closely with the EPC's Executive Director and Associate Director of Development to increase and diversify the center's funding and management of its resources. Works with K-12 partner districts, other higher education institutions, and community organizations to leverage resources and coordinate/align services to impact systemic change and address barriers to creating college-going and completion cultures at regional districts/schools.. As a member of the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Educational Partnership Center (EPC) provides an array of school-centered and student-centered activities for students, parents, faculty, and community members across the Monterey Bay and Silicon Valley/San Jose regions to support students on the college-going pathway. The EPC coordinates new and longstanding student academic preparation efforts of the University of California, Santa Cruz with the goal of increasing access and opportunity to postsecondary education for students across our service area.. Qualifications / Competencies. Bachelor's degree in related area.. Proven success in the management, design and evaluation of multiple programs and experience managing budgets and staff, including developing performance objectives and managing and rewarding performance.. Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and bring to completion multiple projects in a complex environment, with minimal direction.. Advanced knowledge of pedagogical issues underlying student academic preparation and achievement for low-income, first-generation, and/or underrepresented students. This includes understanding the needs and interventions necessary to reach these communities through culturally appropriate strategies and approaches that impact college preparation, readiness, and success.. Demonstrated success in leading partnerships that have created systemic change and/or strategies to address barriers to creating college-going and completion cultures in K-12 districts.. Proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.. Excellent oral and interpersonal skills sufficient to develop effective relationships across all spectrums of the campus community, with the UC Office of the President, K-12 partners, postsecondary institutions, community partners, etc.; make effective presentations to diverse groups; chair committees and task forces representing multiple interests; and achieve consensus on highly sensitive issues.. Excellent written communication skills and experience sufficient to produce reports and write grant proposals and publications.. Expert knowledge and understanding of P20 educational equity programs and issues.. Strong knowledge of and experience in fiscal and personnel management. Extensive fundraising, development, and/or grant writing experience, with evidence of success in developing proposals for extramural funding in support of educational programs.. Understanding of emerging partnerships between higher education and K-12 education and the ability to successfully identify key players and cultivate these relationships to advance college enrollment and success of low-income, first-generation, and/or underrepresented students.. Demonstrated ability to be proactive, creative, and innovative in solving problems and issues.. Preferred Qualifications / Competencies. Master's degree, EdD, or PhD in related area.. Strong knowledge of organizational developmental strategies and practices.. Advanced knowledge of relevant federal/state regulations and accountability/reporting requirements.. Ability and willingness to work variable hours including evening, weekends, and travel within service area and nationally, if necessary..
