Campus Research IT FacilitatorAcademic Divisional Computing#: 1908841Full Time; Career Starting Salary Range: $106,858-$128,525/annually. The Research IT Team (RIT) team is responsible for partnering with campus level research cyberinfractructure (RCI) experts including the senior engineers in the Division of Information Technology Services (ITS), contributing domain scientists, researchers and research groups and educators necessary to engage in, and drive, new information technology capabilities in support of scientific discovery. RIT provides campus leadership in the development of UCSC's IT infrastructure to better meet the needs of faculty and research projects. This unit is responsible for developing creative IT solutions to improve the effectiveness of the campus in serving its missions of research, teaching, and public service. Much of the unit's work takes the form of defining and leading projects to explore and prototype new information technology, working with researchers to integrate this technology into research projects where it promises to facilitate the scientific discovery and education processes.Under the general direction of the Director Research IT, the CI Engineer is responsible for participating in the development, adoption and dissemination of RCI technology both to researchers on the UCSC campus and to the broader RCI community. The term \"cyberinfrastructure\" refers to \"the distributed computer, information and communication technologies combined with the personnel and integrating components that provide a longterm platform to empower the modern scientific research endeavor.\" This general charge includes a number of specific responsibilities including: training and consulting with campus researchers in the use of campus RCI; working with the broader RCI community (e.g. CENIC, Internet2, ESnet, etc.) to share lessons learned at UCSC and to stay abreast of new developments elsewhere; strategic planning for UCSC's RCI, education of both internal and external audiences in the availability and use of RCI tools; and collaboration with campus and CI community engineers in the development and implementation of new RCI capabilities.Qualifications include: Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Possesses advanced knowledge of professional IT concepts. Broad knowledge of the IT environment. Advanced skills associated with programming design, modification and implementation. In-depth knowledge of secure software development. Requires in-depth knowledge of applications programming technologies, development tools and protocols. Demonstrated advanced knowledge, skills and abilities associated with system problem identification and resolution. Knowledge necessary to design, set up, operate and correct malfunctions involving technology systems. Experience in incident response and documentation. In-depth knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
