We are looking for a results-oriented IT leader with a solid background and proven track record of building and supporting investment technology solutions. This role is responsible for providing expert knowledge and technical leadership during all phases of the software development lifecycle including post-release support for fixed income investments front and middle office/analytics-oriented applications and solutions. This role serves as the primary technology partner for Sentinel Investments.

This role works alongside portfolio managers, quantitative researchers and technology professionals on the design and development of portfolio management analytics and data platforms. The person in this role will have an in depth understanding of fixed income trade flow lifecycle and the industry knowledge to partner with Legal, Risk, and Compliance, relative to daily operations and strategic business / regulatory agendas.

The person in this position must have the ability to effectively communicate complex business requirements and processes with various stakeholders. The person is responsible for ensuring his / her teams delivery of modern, highly usable solutions based on business requirements and understands how to best grow, upgrade, and maintain the solutions from a life cycle management perspective. This role will be a direct report to the Vice President of Applications within the National Life IT organization. This role will be based in Montpelier, VT.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the business to define, prioritize, lead, execute and manage technology initiatives in support of investment research, portfolio management and trading
  • Understand investment process, issues/problems and apply appropriate IT standards and solutions
  • Collaborate with research and investment staff to identify and resolve core analytics and data issues
  • Develop solutions that leverage and improve upon existing systems/integrations to meet near term needs of the research-driven investment and analytics processes
  • Work with application and data architects to improve current state systems/integrations and build roadmaps for future analytics and data platforms for FI quantitative research and portfolio management
  • Implement infrastructure to support quantitative model development and back-testing, maintaining IT standards for controls and governance
  • Oversee projects to develop core quantitative analytics capabilities
  • Run the embedded / quant development practice
  • Owns and is accountable for roadmaps, vendor engagement, delivery, SLAs and support
  • Ensure system, technical and product architectures are aligned with business objectives
  • Work with Information Security, Legal, and Compliance/Audit to ensure the highest level of security and integrity of investments data
  • Continuously improve quality, delivery and lower costs
  • Align and manage IT staff both onshore and offshore
  • Lead prioritization, team assignments, tracking, and management of work assignments
  • Maintain status as subject matter expert for investment technologies
  • Work with the business to articulate how technology supports the investments strategy
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in computer science or business
  • 7+ years of application development and support experience in support of investment processes, integrations and data analytics
  • Working knowledge of portfolio management process for life insurance general account preferred; technology expert in support of portfolio construction, investment risk management and securities trading and operations
  • Thorough knowledge in fixed-income analytics along with the ability to apply the concepts to solve practical portfolio problems; advanced knowledge of fixed income and derivate security types
  • Experience managing a suite of vendor applications, with specific experience with Blackrock Aladdin, Bloomberg and / or related platforms.
  • Established track record of ability to architect and implement data solutions in quantitative environments (e.g., Matlab, S-Plus/R, Python, etc.)
  • Comfort and expertise with investment data sets (security master, holdings, portfolio analytics) and an ability to mine such data and produce analyses.
  • Experience designing / delivering solutions to front office investment management across research, portfolio analysis (risk analysis), portfolio construction, and trading.
  • Ability to debate ideas/strategy, comfortable managing constructive conflict, and not afraid to challenge status quo
  • In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies and their application to business opportunities
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage diverse global teams
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are a necessity, as this role includes heavy interaction with front office and the trading desks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across business units and IT customers in the planning and implementation of high quality solutions
