Keybanc is seeking a qualified pre-MBA candidate as a sell-side Equity Research Associate in Electric Utilities and Alternative Energy space. This person will be responsible for closely following publicly traded Utilities and Alternative Energy companies and supporting the Senior Analyst. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and financial modeling skills and show high aptitude for gathering and synthesizing complex industry data derived from regulatory filings, news articles and company reports.
The ideal candidate will come from within a regulated Utility or will have experience covering regulated Utilities and familiarity with their business model, rate mechanisms and regulatory frameworks.
This role offers excellent opportunities to gain exposure to and interact with institutional clients and senior management of covered companies and receive hands-on training in building complex forecast and valuation models.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Provide support to the Senior Analyst through contributing to creating and updating company-specific financial models and marketing materials
Prepare regular written research reports that summarize the findings of analysis, including estimates of expected current year business results
Draft reports/ notes on relevant investment themes, events, and breaking news
Closely monitor daily news flow and alert Senior Analyst to important news, as well as quickly adjust financial models and write notes in response to that information
Respond to client and internal inquiries regarding research findings and directives
Interact with investor relations and management of companies under coverage
Skills & Experience Required
BA/BS degree required, preferably with concentration in Finance, Accounting or Economics. Candidates with quantitative/engineering degrees and strong subsequent experience in finance/accounting will be considered
1-3 years of relevant work experience
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and ability to build and maintain detailed integrated three statements financial models
Familiarity with SEC Filings: a basic but solid understanding of 10Qs/10Ks is required, alongside an ability to discern basic accounting/financial ratios
Exception attention to detail and ability to process large amounts of data from SEC documents, utility filings, regulatory bodies and company reports in an organized and timely fashion and with no errors
Ability to analyze large amounts of data and detect trends and draw conclusions from information
Passion for capital markets and investing
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Ability to deliver under pressure and meet deadlines effectively
Must have series 7, 63, 86 and 87 licenses or obtain licenses within 3 months of hire
Hands-on Training We provide hands-on training under the supervision of our senior analysts, as well through our broader associate development program, which include mentoring, CFA certification financing and new technology/data-oriented training initiatives. Training is also provided through exposure/interactions with senior managements, as well as learning through trade shows/utilities conferences and events
