Underwriting Counsels provide underwriting support and expertise to company personnel, agents, and customer(s), in relation to the issuance of residential and commercial real estate title insurance commitments and policies. In addition, the role provides services in relation to escrow functions of commercial closings in collaboration with agents and customer(s). Utilizes Company underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits, in order to underwrite and negotiate the coverage issues relevant to the issuance of title insurance; provides guidance in the performance of real estate settlement services.
Provides underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel, agents, and customer(s), related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies;
Utilizes underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits, to underwrite the issuance of title insurance policies.
Shares responsibility with underwriting team for communicating information related to underwriting and real estate settlement services to agents and other MA agency team players as necessary – this includes training and presentations;
Supports the development and maintenance of effective business relationships with agents, as well as internal and other external clients in order to attract, develop and retain profitable business for Massachusetts;
Participates in industry events, conventions and local real estate groups (like REBA) to help market First American and promote the title industry;
Knowledge and Skills
Understanding of, and strong desire to master, concepts, practices and procedures of real estate titles and closing;
Knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to real estate title insurance and settlement services;
Knowledge and understanding of commercial transactions and endorsements.

Ability to diagnose and analyze problems, identify and drive appropriate solutions, and achieve desired results;
Ability to collaborate and act decisively.

Law Degree required.
Admitted to practice in Massachusetts
Typical Range of Experience
Minimum 5-7 years related legal experience.
License or Certification
Licensed to practice law, in good standing
