The Automation Engineering Technician is part of a critical team supporting GMP manufacturing, utility generation and facilities operations. Using hands-on expertise, they will troubleshoot, repair, maintain, install, and modify automated equipment. The Automation Technician is responsible for performing and documenting the required maintenance and monitoring of the facility automation and I&C systems and equipment in a cGMP facility. The required duties include Preventative and Corrective maintenance on the facility s various automation systems, from GMP Equipment to the facility's Autoclaves, HVAC, WFI, Clean Steam, and other equipment as needed. Attention to detail and process analytical skills are required. Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all staff levels.

Some tasks include but not limited to:

  • Repair and maintain automated equipment and machinery applying general mechanical, electrical, electronic and hydraulic principles.
  • Use a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments & PC s to perform assignments.
  • Utilize equipment-specific software for set up, troubleshooting, and programming/editing of automation devices, such as variable frequency drives, HMI screens, PLC s (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Beckoff etc.) & vision systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance requirements and record maintenance programs.
  • Performs all tasks in accordance with companies established policies and procedures. Document all work. Training new employees on the maintenance of equipment, safety of equipment, SOPs and GMPs on an as needed basis
  • Adhering to all established Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Policies (i.e., lockout/tagout, arc flash, OJTs)
  • Inspect equipment to locate potential causes of trouble.
  • Routinely check equipment for potential safety hazards and implement safety improvements promptly after a need is identified.
  • Interact with production personnel to assess equipment problems and observe equipment to determine what repairs or modifications are necessary.
  • Assemble new machines and equipment.
  • Assist and train production personnel on preventive and troubleshooting maintenance procedures as necessary.
  • Actively participate in company Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP guidelines and with all applicable company, federal, and local EH&S regulations, guidelines and policies
  • Communicate effectively with other departments within the organization and function within a team environment
  • Must be dependable and available to work overtime as needed
  • Reviews and completes assigned work orders in a timely manner.

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience operating and maintaining facility equipment in a medical device or pharmaceutical GMP Environment required
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks resulting in consistent productivity
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision, take charge of projects and work effectively in a demanding, fast paced environment.
  • Ability to function within and support a team environment and build strong working relationships
  • Must be dependable and available to work overtime as needed
  • High school diploma or GED required; A plus is an Engineering Associates degree OR past additional training in Automation, Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering helpful but not required.
